Athletic Update – 8/31/2019 to 9/6/2019

Football:

Football was at Worthington Kilbourne last week, and won 16-6. Sam Wyne caught two touchdown passes from Spencer Hawkins. One went for 85 yards. Spencer Hawkins threw for 179 yards as well. Joey Guagenti had a blocked field goal and the defense held strong. Tonight they play their home opener against Hilliard Bradley.

Girls Soccer:

 

On Tuesday Girls Soccer played against Franklin Heights. The team won 10-0, scoring five goals in the first half and another five in the second. Junior Morgan Scott scored two goals and one goal scored by senior Cierra Clemons, senior Grace Poorbaugh, senior Addie Masters, senior Sophia Leonetti, junior Lizzie Woo, junior Lo Shrader, juniori Maddie Daniel, and sophomore Secora Johnson.

 

Their next game is at Watterson at 1p.m. on Saturday.

Boys Soccer:

 

On Tuesday boys soccer played their fourth game of the season at Franklin Heights. The team won easily 11-0. Senior Kyle Stringer scored three, senior Eddie Muller and junior Zach Blendick both had two goals, and senior Jack Kossoudji, junior Alex James, junior Baracah Gimei, and senior Noah Bidstrup all had one goal. 

 

On Thursday the team played against Gahanna at home in an exciting game. Junior Zach Blendick scored at the end of the first half, giving the Pioneers the momentum going into the second half. The boys held of Gahanna with Kossoudji scoring another goal late in the second half, making the score 2-0. 

 

The team plays at home against Liberty next Tuesday.

Volleyball:

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the girls had a crazy game against rival Olentangy Liberty. After two hours and five cray sets in front of a loud crowd, the Pioneers were able to defeat the Patriots three sets to two scoring 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, and 15-13 in the final set. 

On Thursday, Sept. 5, your lady pioneers traveled to Westerville Central for a conference game. They won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, and 25-17.

Field Hockey:

This week, the girls field hockey team had a tough game against returning state champs Thomas Wortington. The girls knew it would be a tough game since they tied them in preseason, 0-0. On August 4th, the girls travelled to the Cardinal’s home turf. Unfortunately, the result ended in a lost for the Pioneers with a final score of 0-3. The girls will play next on Saturday August 7th against Worthington Kilbourne at home.

Orange golf plays tomorrow on Saturday the 7.

Girls Golf: 

Girls golf placed 6th overall in their OCC this week. Natalie Au has averaged an 83 thus far which puts her 2nd overall in the buckeye division!

Cross Country:

 

On Saturday August 31st, the Boys XC team were up against 15 teams at Westerville North. Junior Jake Ethridge was Orange’s top guy who finished in 5th with his personal best with 16:13 for a 5k. The team finished in first with their top 5 guys finishing in 40 seconds in between them. For the Girls XC team, sophomore Abby Schroff finishing in tenth with a time of 19:52 and senior Paige Benecke finishing in twelfth with a time of 20:02, just ten seconds after Schroff for a 5k run to help the pioneers finish in third overall. Both teams head to Liberty in two weeks on Saturday Sept.14 to compete against 10 other teams.
