The girls gymnastics team had a very successful season, breaking multiple school records throughout the season. Regarding this season, Junior Olivia Dieckmann said, “The season went really well and we had our biggest and best team yet. We set the expectations high and worked hard to reach our goals.”
The girls gymnastics team had its first meet against Big Walnut, DeSales, Tri-Valley and Coshocton on Friday, Dec. 14th. The Orange girls came out on top with a score of 125.35 points, followed closely behind by Tri-Valley with a score of 124.35 points.
The team competed in another quad meet Thursday, Dec. 20th. Each girl had a strong showing, placing in multiple events, especially seniors Celia Ritchie and Nicole Carifa. On Saturday, Dec. 22nd the girls competed against Olentangy and Big Walnut. The team placed 2nd, with outstanding performances by Ritchie and Freshman Molly Wheeler.
On Saturday, Jan. 5th, the Orange gymnastics team broke the school record for team score at the Delaware invitational where they took 1st place scoring 133.7 points. The team had 19 gymnasts who competed at the invitational. Leading the team was sophomore Grace Ritterspach taking 1st place All around, 2nd place on vault, bars and floor and 5th on beam; Ritchie taking 2nd place All around, 1st on vault and beam, 5th on bars and floor; Wheeler took 4th place All around, 3rd on vault, 6th on beam and 1st on bars.
On Jan. 9th, the team competed against Berlin and Tri-Valley at Marysville. The team placed 2nd with a team score of 131.95 points. Ritterspach received 1st place on bars and 1st place All Around.
On Friday, Jan. 25th, the girls gymnastics team competed in the Warhawk invitational and placed 2nd with a score of 133.9 points, beating the team score record for the school. Leading the team was Ritterspach who took 3rd place All Around and Ritchie, Wheeler, Dieckmann and junior Holly Schutte, who all placed top five in an event.
On Saturday, Feb. 9th the girls gymnastics team competed in the OCC’s tournament and placed 2nd, beating their their team record with a score of 134.425 points. Ritchie placed 1st on vault, 1st on beam, 5th for her floor routine, 6th on bars and 2nd place All Around. Ritterspach, Wheeler and sophomore Emma Wood placed top six in multiple events.
Members of girls gymnastics team competed at the District Invitational on Feb. 19th. The members together got a team score of 121.55 points but this meet was based more on individual scores rather than a team score. Senior Savannah Byas and Freshmen Riley Rankin and Macie Smith all placed top 8 in multiple events. On Feb. 23rd, the girls gymnastics team competed at Districts. This meet was highly competitive and 24 teams competed. Orange placed 11th and received an overall team score of 129.925 points.
Regarding the season, Coach Jennifer Hedrick said, “Orange had an amazing season this year. They broke all kinds of records as a team. It was our largest, most talented team ever. The amount of improvement the girls made was incredible. The culture of the team was positive, inclusive and team focused.”
Overall, the girls had an extremely successful season and are looking forward to break more records next year.
