The varsity field hockey team played the reigning state champions, Thomas Worthington, at home on Monday, Sept. 10. The team put up a fight, but lost 2-0. However, sophomore goalie, Chloe Fuller had four saves, not allowing Thomas Worthington to take complete control of the game. On Wednesday, Sept. 12, varsity played Bishop Hartley and won 3-0. The goals were made by junior Josie Vance, junior Hannah Brown and sophomore Sydney Lowry.
Boys golf was scheduled to play last Saturday, at Turnberry in the WC Invite. It was cancelled due to rain. They played on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in their fourth OCC match at Darby Creek. They finished second out of five teams, tying Olentangy Liberty at 305. But Liberty’s fifth man had a lower score than Orange’s five man so they took home first place. The individual scores were Jonathan Green 72, Captain Alex Cabungcal 77, Corbin Bentley 77, Nathan Brown 79, and Brendan Cabungcal 84 with a team total of 305. Alex Cabungcal made the first OCC team, Nathan Brown made second team and Corbin Bentley was honorable mention.
On Wednesday the girls golf team was able to complete the “3peat” of winning the overall OCC Buckeye title by winning the final OCC match of the year with a score of 335. The team was led by Riley Dean who shot an even par 72 and Ashley Au followed right behind her with a 73. Following up the title win, on Thursday the team fell to Dublin Coffman in a nine-hole head-to-head match. The team lost the match by a score of 158-164 with Ashley Au leading the Pioneers with a 4-under 32. The girls next matchup will be next Monday Sept. 17 in a 4-way matchup at Blackhawk.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, boys soccer defeated Big Walnut 3-2. It was a hard fought matchup, with Orange leading the whole game and Big Walnut continuously trying to catch up. The Pioneer goals were scored by senior Joey Brooks and sophomore Alex James. The third goal was an own goal scored on, what I believe, was a great finish. They then travelled to Olentangy Liberty where they suffered a tough 5-1 loss. The only goal for Orange came from Brooks again, who is having an amazing season. The Pioneers return to home to face Worthington Kilbourne next Tuesday, and then a heated OCC matchup against Westerville Central.
The JVB game on Monday, Sept. 10 at home against Upper Arlington was cancelled due to poor field conditions. On Sept. 12, the JVB team traveled to Olentangy Liberty High School and tied 0-0. On Sept. 13, the JVA team took on Olentangy Liberty at home and tied 1-1 with a goal by sophomore Maddie Daniels. Varsity also played Olentangy Liberty at home on Sept. 13, and had an amazing win 2-0 with goals by seniors Ray Johnson and Grace Weidenhamer.
Girls Varsity tennis defeated Dublin Jerome 3-2 in a home match on Monday, Sept. 10. In singles, freshman Tyler Reed won vs. Pelluru, 6-4 and 6-3. Freshman Niki Bhimireddy fell to Nadireddy, 3-6, 6-2 and 0-1. Junior Hannah Logan also lost her match to Yao, 2-6 and 1-6. In doubles matches, juniors Erin Storrer and Kourtney Reed defeated Wang/Resor, 6-3 and 6-4. Sophomore Caroline Sproule and Livie Mauger defeated Alagappan/Seikel, 6-4 and 6-1.
Girls Varsity takes an easy 5-0 win vs Columbus School for Girls on Tuesday, Sept. 11. In singles, Erin Storrer, Caroline Sproule and Tyler Reed take unmatched wins, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. In doubles, Hannah Logan and Abby Butler won against Showe/Parker, 6-1 and 6-3. Juniors Madison Bastian and Teresa Hawke also won their match vs. Hardy/Tobias, 6-2 and 6-2.
On Wednesday, Sept.12, Girls Varsity tennis traveled to Bishop Watterson High School. In singles, Erin Storrer, Kourtney Reed and Madison Bastian won their matches, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3, 2-6 and 1-0. In doubles, Livie Mauger and Niki Bhimireddy defeats Geswein/Baur, 6-1 and 6-1. Sophomores Abby Butler and Gabi Valiulis also won vs Weithman/Bouchard, 6-4 and 6-3.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, volleyball hosted Westerville Central in their first face-off of the season. The Pioneers had a program sweep, JV and freshman winning 2-0 and varsity winning 3-0. Senior Sidney Gossard led the Pioneers with a hitting percentage of .458.
The team traveled to Westerville South on Thursday, Sept. 13 in another OCC match. It was another program sweep. Senior Carrigan O’Reilly made her senior season debut in the match after being out with a knee injury. Junior Madison Moll hit an impressive .571 and also led the team in blocks with 2.5 blocks per set.
