Pioneers News · Orange HS Athletic Update – 12/4/2017


The Boys Ice Hockey team went to Dublin after Thanksgiving to play in the annual Chiller Thanksgiving Classic. The team had to dig deep a few times but came through undefeated to take 1st place in the Red Division. They opened the tournament against Watterson and had to go to a shootout to win 4-3. The following day had the ‘neers played against Strongsville in the morning (7-5) and Anthony Wayne in the evening (4-0). The Championship game was against the Olentangy Braves on Sunday. The game went back and forth and the Pioneers scored with .38 remaining in the game to go up 3-2. The Braves showed no quit in their game scoring the tying goal with .2 seconds remaining in the game. With no score thru the overtime period, the Pioneers won the contest in the 4th frame of the shootout.

Girls Basketball played at Desales on Wednesday, November 29th.

Boys Varsity Hockey falls to Dublin Coffman 6 – 4
Orange Goals: Mosher, Golias, Foy, C Miller
Orange Assists: Z Miller, Josh Gutkoski
Orange lost the opener in the Allgeyer Showcase tonight 6-4. Goals were scored by Aaron Mosher, Bobby Golias, Cameron Miller and Michael Foy scored his 1st Varsity goal. Ian Cozby was in net for the Pioneers and made 29 saves on 35 shots.

Boys Varsity Basketball beats New Albany 55 – 41
Matt McCollum lead the way in scoring for the Pioneers with 18 pts. Jalen Bethel was dominant in the post with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Boys Varsity Basketball beats Buckeye Valley 68 – 59
Bryson Lane lead the Pioneers in scoring with 15. Jalen Bethel hand his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Freshman: Orange 49 Buckeye Valley 14

Girls Varsity Basketball wins 56-40 over Buckeye Valley
McKenna Ford led all scorers with 16 points.
Taylor Myers had 14 points, Alyssa Feeley had 10, and Aurelia Johnson had 9.

The Pioneers defeated Padua in the Allgeyer Showcase 4-2. Goals were scored by Mosher (2), Wander and Golias. Ryan Surowiec made 13 saves.

Boys Varsity Bowling finishes 6th place at Red and Blue Classic
The Varsity boys were in action today at the Red and Blue Classic held at HP Lanes. The boys were led by Andrew Kicas with games of 224, 224, and 189 for a total of 637. Andrew was also named to the all tournament team placing 5th. Next was Tommy Ciaciura with a game of 248 and total of 570. Tanner Davidson had a game of 214 and total of 567. Gabe Jacobs had a game of 204 and Jaden Wiebell game of 224. They where in 7th after game one moved to 2nd after game 2 and stayed there till the baker games where they were unable to keep it going dropping to 6th overall.

Girls Varsity Bowling finishes 7th place at Red and Blue Classic
The Varsity girls were in action today at the Red and Blue Classic at HP Lanes. The girls ended up in 7th place overall. They were led by Haley Wemple with games of 157, 202, 152 for a total of 511. Next was Raymie Shieldswith games of 192, 136, 163 for a total of 491. Remy Gray had a game of 157 and McKenzie Peterson had a game of 151.

The Pioneers won back to back games against Padua by winning on Sunday by a score of 7-5/ Pioneer goals were turned in by Mosher (2), Boytar (2), Hazel, Wander and Golias. The ‘Neers finished in 5th place of the Adam Allgeyer Memorial Showcase. The team will get back to league play next Friday night at home against Watterson.
